Cowbridge Music Festival was launched in 2010 and has gained a place among the most exciting music festivals in Wales, offering classical music, jazz and folk music at an international level for the community of Cowbridge and beyond. Run by an Artistic Director, an Administrator and a board of trustees, the Festival is a registered charity, recognised and funded by the Arts Council of Wales for its musical excellence. Since 2014 it is proud to have the endorsement of violinist Nicola Benedetti CBE, who is the Festival’s Patron, and in 2017 the renowned Welsh pianist, Llŷr Williams, became the Festival’s Associate Artist.
- Bringing international artistic excellence to the community of Cowbridge
- Inspiring, educating and challenging the next generation of musicians and music-lovers
- Creating opportunities for young talented musicians
- Making classical music accessible to all and demolishing its perceived elitist image
- Benefitting the community and putting Cowbridge on the cultural map of Great Britain
The Festival takes place in the early autumn when the summer holidays are over and we are back at work and school, a good time for some of the finest musicians of Wales and the rest of Europe to descend upon Cowbridge to brighten up our lives with two weeks of world class music-making!
The Festival attributes its success to the generosity of a number of charitable trusts and especially to the continued support of the Arts Council of Wales. With the loyal support of local businesses, the Friends’ Association and Cowbridge Rotary Club, as well as countless enthusiastic audience members and volunteers, the Festival goes from strength to strength. From a series of three concerts over a week, it has developed into a fortnight of almost thirty events with a vibrant Fringe and Outreach Programme.
One of our most cherished aims is to make great classical musical completely approachable, enjoyable and uplifting, never ‘high-brow’ or elitist. Whether you’re an accustomed concert-goer or a total novice, you can always be sure of a warm welcome at Cowbridge Music Festival!
