Baroque Violin Recital
Veronika Eberle – violin
Jonathan Cohen – harpsichord
Ahead of her Mendelssohn Concerto with Bernhard Haitink and the London Symphony Orchestra, we welcome Veronika Eberle to Cowbridge in a programme of Bach and Biber for violin and harpsichord with Jonathan Cohen.
Veronika Eberle is one of the most outstanding violinists to emerge from Germany in recent years. From an early age her exceptional talent attracted the attention of some of the world’s most eminent conductors and finest orchestras, and she was only 16 when she won international acclaim with her performance of Beethoven’s Violin Concerto with Sir Simon Rattle and the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra at the Salzburg Easter Festival in 2006. She has gone on to tour throughout the world as soloist with many of the great orchestras and at most of the leading festivals in Europe. Veronika’s forthcoming London engagements include a BBC Radio 3 Artist Spotlight Recital as part of the celebrations surrounding Sir Simon Rattle’s inaugural season as LSO Music Director and a performance of Mendelssohn’s Violin Concerto in October, this time with Bernard Haitink and the LSO.
Jonathan Cohen has forged a remarkable career as a conductor, cellist and keyboard player. As well as having a passion for chamber music Jonathan is equally at home in baroque opera and the classical symphonic repertoire. He is Artistic Director of Arcangelo, one of the world’s leading Baroque ensembles, and Artistic Director of Tetbury Festival. Most recently he was appointed Music Director of the Quebec City-based Les Violons du Roy, a group that specialises in music of the 17th and 18th centuries.
