IAN BOSTRIDGE AND JULIUS DRAKE
Ian Bostridge – tenor
Julius Drake – piano
Winterreise, D 911 by Franz Schubert
Two world-renowned masters of the lied recital, tenor Ian Bostridge CBE and pianist Julius Drake, perform Schubert’s Winterreise (Winter Journey). Completed in 1827, just a year before the composer’s death, this cycle of 24 songs of love and loss is regarded as one of the great creations in the western musical tradition.
Ian Bostridge began his career as soloist at Wigmore Hall in 1995, since when he has won world-wide acclaim for his roles in opera and as a lieder recitalist. Most notable has been his 30-year obsession, as he himself describes it, with Schubert’s Winterreise.
Julius Drake lives in London and enjoys an international reputation as one of the finest pianists in his field, collaborating with many of the world’s leading artists. The New Yorker recently described him as the “collaborative pianist nonpareil.” Among his many award-winning recordings are those he has made with Ian Bostridge for EMI.
Tickets go on sale to the CMF Friends Association on Saturday 8th August. General sales will then open on Saturday 22nd August.
