Damascus born Maya Youssef is hailed as “the queen of the qanun”, the 78 stringed Middle Eastern plucked zither. Since moving to London on the Arts Council of England’s Exceptional Talent scheme she has appeared at the BBC Proms, and together with her trio she now travels the world sharing her extraordinary musical gifts and her message of hope.
